A European Trip Remembered

Elizabeth, Olivia, Jack, Carter and I are spending this week together at The Homestead. This is our first vacation since the pandemic began. I thought it would be fun to post my FB posts from our European vacation with the boys back in June of 2013.

June 13 – After missing our connection in Boston and spending the night in London, we left St. Pancras Station (which is beautiful) and got out of London at 5:40 am without incident.  We took the Chunnel from London to Paris, enjoying the English and French countryside. We made it to our Hotel in Paris a day late, which we absolutely love. Our balcony overlooks St. Sulpice Church.  After a hearty breakfast, we met our guide Sophie and saw the Louvre and walked around Montmartre to the Basilica Sacred Heart at the top of the Hill. Sophie took us to one of her favorite cafes, where we enjoyed some coffee, beer, duck pot pie and various pastries. I would recommend her to anyone who loves to walk. She is energetic and knows her art. We are now relaxing in our room and enjoying some wine, bread and cheese. We will sleep well tonight.

June 14 – We had a very busy day in Paris. A wonderful breakfast, a visit to the Muse D’Orsay (everyone’s favorite), lunch outside in the Tuileries Garden including wonderful escargots, and a visit to the Muse De L’Orangerie. Afterwards, we had wonderful gelato in the park and walked back to our hotel in the left bank. We then took a nap. When we arose, we visited the L’arc de triumph, the Eiffel Tower and Shakespeare & Company book store, before grabbing a bite to eat and enjoying some champagne at our hotel before retiring for the night. It is now 1:00 am. Parisians do like to party!
