A woven mixture 
Of burning wood 
And glowing embers
Provides warmth and light

A log is added 
It’s hard and green
Resisting the embrace
Of brilliant embers 

The log catches fire
Its own flames 
Burn hot and wild
Warming all things near

With time
Its flames fade
A log that is now embers
Bound in communal warmth
