Poems

Two Poems

Two Poems follow. One is about standing united with our brothers and sisters of color during this horrible crisis. The other was written on my birthday and is an epiphany of sorts.

You Are Never Alone 6.1.20

My thoughts and prayers are on your Community
My thoughts and prayers are on those You love
My thoughts and prayers are on your Family
My thoughts and prayers are on you
Most of all, my thoughts and prayers are for you
And through my thoughts I am with you
For You are never alone.

Birthday Run 6.6.20

It’s the first day of my 60th year
And like so many prior days
I slip on my running shoes
And go for a morning run

Emmy Lou is my companion
Running and frolicking
Making my morning run
Even more joyful

And for a moment
I realize that one day
She will be too old to run
As I will some day

But that realization
Only makes our run
Even more special
And a true gift

Moments like those
Are why I run
The endorphin induced
Moment of clarity

Like a cold winter morning
When the trees are bare
And you can see deep
Into the wood

That moment of clarity
Strips your mind of clutter
And Allows you to see
Deep into your own soul
