Italy/Greece Day 2 – May 12th – Amalfi Coast

The previous evening (Mother’s Day), we had a wonderful dinner in Sorrento of fresh pasta with seafood and fish in lemon sauce washed down with a nice red from Sicily. After a decent night of sleep, we awoke the next morning to meet our driver to tour the Amalfi Coast with stops in Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. I had always heard how beautiful and dramatic the Amalfi Coast is, and it did not disappoint.

Highlights of the day included walking from the top of the town of Positano to the beach and back, stopping for breathtaking photos along the coast, enjoying maybe the best pizza we have ever had for lunch in Ravello (loved Ravello – not as crowded as Positano and Amalfi) and buying a beautiful ceramic table outside of Positano on our way back.

While having lunch, we had an interesting conversation with a mother and daughter from San Diego who were staying in Amalfi. The daughter was attending NYU studying film and was spending a semester in Paris. The mom is an ER doctor. When we told her about our Emergency Medical stop in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, she recounted two similar incidents that she was involved in and had to treat the passengers.

On our way back, we stopped at a ceramics factory and bought a beautiful table. We love it.

When we arrived back at our hotel in Sorrento, we relaxed by the pool, followed by an amazing dinner at a restaurant near our hotel that was recommended by our driver Marco. We ended the evening with drinks at our hotel’s rooftop bar, where we met a nice couple from Georgia.

Themes of the day were lots of sun, lots of Americans, and lots of good food.
