The mural that inspired the poem Our group during first day of hike
We started in Dublin
With lots of things “happenin”
Including Temple Bar
And singing on Grafton
We journeyed to Tralee
To start The Dingle Way
A 110-mile excursion
With feats each day
We walked Tralee to Camp
Where streams ran strong
With views of Tralee Bay
Where we met MAGA John
To Annascaul we marched
On a wet Day two
As we swam in the sea
Dining at South Pole Pub too
From Annascaul to Dingle
We trudged through the “mud”
Not wanting to know
What was in that Crud
In Dingle we played
And had a great time
Dining on Oysters
With Guinness and wine
On to Dunquin
Around Mt Eagle we flew
To the tip of the Peninsula
Seeing Blasket Island too
At Kruger’s we ate
But lost a few
With fourteen left
That’s sixteen minus two
To Ballydavid and Feohanogh
With beach and sun galore
Blissful with boxed lunches
But not what was in store
At the last beach
A squall hit us hard
With rain and hail
That felt like shards
After that day
To Dingle went two
To enjoy more oysters
Before rejoining our crew
The rest of our band
Climbed Mt Brandon
Heading to Cloghane
With reckless abandon
We arrived at O’Conner’s
Which had a great bar
While our friend John
Sang and played guitar
We headed to Fahamore
Via Ireland’s longest strand
A beach 7 miles long
With lots of sand
Arriving at Spillane’s pub
We ate and took rest
And to Castlegregory we went
As others stayed as guests
On our final day
A distance that was short
To Camp we did walk
With no rain to report
Now we are headed
On a bus to Dingle
Before dining at Hawksmore
And to drink and mingle
Today I saw a sign
During our roam
Of a dancing Hog
On a stepping stone
And I think of us
As 16 Happy Hogs
Eating our way through Dingle
And Dancing in the bogs
So, we ate like pigs
Not on a run
Doing a jig
And Having so much fun
I will miss my friends
And the time we had together
But will always treasure
The memories that last forever
