As Lizzy was drinking her Mojito on the RiverWalk in San Antonio, I remembered this poem from eight years ago that I had written after visiting friends in Houston. I could have written this same poem after our recent visit to Austin. Over the four days we were together, not once did we feel the need to listen to music or watch T.V. - we just stayed present with each other. What is it about Virginians who move to Texas!
Mojitos in Houston 1.7.14
We are dining with friends
At a favorite eatery
I raise my glass
To the scent of mint
And I am lost in the moment
With friends in conversation
We move between light laughter
And heavy personal reflections
Enjoying every minute
Of authentic exchange
Four Souls exposing themselves
Just wanting to connect
I am most content
With people who are open
If someone should ask
What is happiness?
I would say sipping mojitos
With good and brave friends

Great message of staying and living in the present John…thanks for the challenge and encouragement!

I love this poem and how it encapsulates friendship. Although, is it only Mojito’s that can be shared? I mean, I’d chose a “group” dessert. Nothing says friendship like sharing chocolate.

Steve,
Agreed, as a dark chocolate affectionado, sharing a chocolate dessert is even better! Thanks for your comment! And congrats again on the success of your book.

Great reminder to always strive to be present. Nothing better than good friends and good food/drink. The pic is making me drool…..
